A Mother's Perspective

hen Sofia was diagnosed with vitiligo, our first instinct as parents was to understand it.
We quickly realised vitiligo wasn't the problem. Misunderstanding it was.
Sofia hadn't changed. She was still the same kind, caring and confident girl. Her skin simply looked different.
But when something looks different, people can stare, question or make assumptions. Often not because they are unkind, but because they don't understand.
That became the reason for Perfection By Sofia.
The X represents crossing out the fear, judgement and misconceptions that can surround something we don't understand.
And Perfection represents what we wanted Sofia, and every young person, to know:
You don't need to look like everyone else to be perfect. Perfection is being who you are.
Our story started with vitiligo, but our purpose goes much further.
There are so many children and teens living with conditions, differences and circumstances they never chose. We want to help create greater understanding around them, share their stories and support the organisations helping them.
Because sometimes something as simple as understanding can change the way we see and treat each other.
| WHAT IS VITILIGO?
Vitiligo is a condition that causes areas of skin to lose pigment, creating lighter patches.
It isn't contagious. It isn't something to fear. And it doesn't change the person underneath it.
That is exactly why awareness matters.
